Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Hair!!

Popi and Gigi have been working hard on the castle for the grandgirls and grandboy when they all visit.  Kate and Ava, of course, visit often.  After all, they only live a couple of blocks away.  Finally, the big day came:  it was finished and ready for all sorts of characters to move into its welcoming sort-of walls.

Rapunzel awaits a tour of the castle while her lady-in-waiting tries out the swing.

The lady-in-waiting always goes first… unless Rapunzel throws a big, bawling fit.  Then the Queen, Gigi, must step in and tone down the impulsive pushiness of the bigger half of this pretend scenario.

Kate loves to pretend to be asleep.  Such a shame it’s always pretend.

Rapunzel is just so stinkin’ cute!!

You know, I may have the lady-in-waiting confused with the court jester.

Aw, yes she is the lady-in-waiting.  My only concern is waiting for what?!?!Rapunzel

Just as I suspected.  Our lady-in-waiting has ulterior motives!  And I’m fairly sure they involve knocking the fair Rapunzel off the bridge.  Run, fair maiden, run!!

There never is a very ladylike, princessly way to fall off the bottom of the slide.  But coming to Rapunzel’s aid, proving that she is all her name sets forth that she is, is our valiant lady-in-waiting to help the poor little maiden to victory.Rapunzel

Or maybe she’s just showing off the dirty arm.

Anyway… on to Popi’s next project!!   A roof for the deck!Rapunzel

My Castle

a section of the backyard -- just needs a little tweaking this fall

My home is my sanctuary, my castle.  It is also sometimes a great source of financial drain and worry.  The memories that fill it are good ones and sad ones.  The people who have lived here before me, who frequented this home, left good vibes; they were good people.  And now, I am the caretaker.

happy faces, sad faces, old faces, new faces

My sunflowers remind me of my family and my friends: those standing tall in the glory of their youth; those whose personalities shine so brightly they bring light to everyone around them; those with sturdy stalks from working hard and holding up their family; those who prefer to stay within the confines of their home, their own castle; those who are beginning to fade, get a little droopy (why you lookin’ at me?); those who hang their heads in defeat, depression, shame, fatigue; those who laugh and hold their heads high, delighting in their good fortune and joy; those with new little faces, budding out each week, month, and finally into the years; those who have grown old and withered, dying as their family and friends stand by their side.

They lean on each other, sometimes faces turned as though in conversation.  They have different centers, different hues: different personalities, different abilities.

I love my sunflowers and grow them every year.  They give me comfort and peace and enjoyment.  They are a part of me and a part of my home.

The Wonderful World of Disney

Disney Castle

Coming up soon is our Wonderful World of Disney Adventure!  I am so excited!  We are going for Kate’s fifth birthday which explains why we are going in the hottest part of the year.  She will be treated that day like the little princess she is.  The good people at Disney give her a big badge to put on, and everyone goes out of their way to say “happy birthday” to her and give her special attention.  And Kate loves attention!  She also loves pretending to be a princess, so she will get to eat lunch at the castle and then supper with Cinderella and Prince Charming where she will receive her own little cake (over-sized cupcake) and a small jewelry box.

Prince Charming and Cinderella

I just found out today at the manicure shop (where else besides the beauty shop can you get good info?) that Prince Charming and Cinderella really did get married!  An old acquaintance was there, and as we were talking about the upcoming trip, she said a friend of hers as a young girl went to work at Disney as Cinderella.  She met the young man who was working as Prince Charming, and they fell just as in love as the original pair… and, well, got married.  They now have a home full of Disney memorabilia.  And hopefully will live happily ever after.

Which one is Kate?
